What could be better than a week of Learn to SAIL CAMP, improving your sailing skills, and making new friends? Sailing is a perfect activity for anyone that enjoys water sports and outdoor recreation. Sailing can be exciting or relaxing. Regardless of age, ability or limitations, sailing has something for everyone.
NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION: Sail Camp is provided by Privateer Sailing Education Foundation (PSEF). A non-profit, 501C3 corporation that is located on the Privateer Yacht Club property, Hixson, Tennessee. We appreciate your ideas, support, and donations.
CURRICULUM: Students are taught to sail in PSEF owned boats ranging in size from 8 to 13 feet. The staff consists of Instructors certified by the United States Sailing Authority. The main emphasis of the camp is fun and safety. Campers will learn: to speak the language of sailing, how to rig their own boat, use the wind to sail in any direction, to right the boat when it tips over, then put away the boat at day’s end. While on shore campers meet new friends while being taught: care of their boat, rules of safe boating, how to tie useful knots, do some swimming, paddling, hiking and much more. Snacks are provided, but each camper should bring their own lunch.
Learning to sail their own boat across the lake and safely returning to shore gives your child increased self-esteem and confidence in their abilities. Most campers return for several weekly camps year after year.
REQUIREMENTS: Campers must be: 8 to 17 years old, mature, able to learn, follow directions and be open to new exciting water sports. Students are required to: Pass a swim test, and appropriate boating clothing including “close toed” sneakers or water shoes. If your child does not have a comfortable Coast Guard approved life jacket, a loaner is available but most campers prefer to bring their own.
SCHEDULE: Camp sessions are one week long (Monday through Friday) and run from 8:45 am to 4 pm.
Week 1 - (June 7 - June 11)
Week 2 - (June 14 – June 18)
Week 3 - (June 21 - June 25)
Week 4 - (June 28 – July 2)
Week 5 - (July 5 - July 9)
Week 6 - (July 12 - July 16)
Week 7 - (July 19 - July 23 OVERFLOW week – only if we have enough demand)
COST: $300 per session per camper. Enrollment is not guaranteed until payment is received.
Special COVID Notice: Due to the expectation that we will still be under COVID restrictions this summer, we will limit attendance to 22 campers per week. While on shore we will observe appropriate social distancing and face mask protocols. Each camper will have their own boat unless a specific exception has been requested by the parents (such as siblings who want to share a boat). We followed similar guidelines in 2020.
DISCOUNTS & SCHOLARSHIPS: Discounts are available for: multiple weeks -$25/wk., multiple children from the same family -$25/student, or a scholarship for special financial needs (contact us to arrange this).
CHILD CARE TAX CREDIT: You may be able to take a partial tax credit for the camp fees. Please consult with your tax professional. If you are eligible, our 501c3 EIN number is 82-5155319.
The online payment link does not apply the discounts, but don’t worry – we will refund any overpayment.

CONTINUE SAILING AFTER SAIL CAMP
Many Sail Campers would like to continue to develop their sailing skills. Here Is how:
Starting in late June, PSEF will have a Racing Workshop one evening or Saturday per week. This is a program designed to introduce sailing as a sport to juniors. The Workshop is open to anyone who is attending or has attended sail camp. It is typically free or offered at a very low cost. It is a great way for campers to work on their sailing skills as well and meet other campers excited about sailing.
After camp ends, we will invite any interested campers to join our Racing Team. The team practices most weekends in the fall and travels to roughly 4 competitions through the month of November. For more information on our racing team, please contact our parent coordinator Samantha Travis firstname.lastname@example.org
PYC offers a junior membership program for any sailors under the age of 25. All campers who join our race team will automatically become junior members. By joining the club as a junior member, there are several benefits including the use of our training fleet.
