8 THE COURSES

8.1 The course will be from the starting line near the PYC red nun, continuing on to the first mark of the course. Competitors will continue on to the second mark or series of marks, as defined by the race committee at the skippers meeting. 2

8.2 The race committee will designate the order marks are to be rounded, and the side they are to be passed.

8.3 Competitors will start at their appointed start time, and round all marks in the sequence prescribed by the race committee, eventually returning to the designated first mark of the course. This will constitute one lap of the race course.

8.4 Competitors will continue to round marks in the sequence prescribed by the race committee, making laps of the course as required, until the finish of the race at about 4:00 PM. (see 12. THE FINISH)

9 MARKS

9.1 Marks of the course will be either navigational buoys or inflatable tetrahedrons, or a combination of both. Marks will designated by their location on the lake, i.e. “Fairview”, “Coast Guard” or “Pumping Station”, etc.

9.2 If inflatable marks are used, their location will be given at the skippers meeting, and will be described by approximate distance and approximate bearing (N, NW, SE, etc) from the previous mark. Inflatable marks will be designated as mark “A”, “B”, “C”, etc.

10 THE START

10.1 The starting line will be between a staff displaying an orange flag on the committee boat and the starting mark.

10.2 Boats waiting their turn to start will stay clear of the starting area.

11 THE FINISH

11.1 The finishing line will be between an orange flag on the Race Committee Boat and the adjacent finishing mark. The finishing mark may be a mark of the course, or it may be an inflatable mark set specifically to define the finish line.

11.2 The line will be established as close as possible to the direct line between marks of the course, or as close as possible to the direct line between marks, while avoiding obstructions. The finish line may be at a mark of the course.

11.3 The race committee will monitor the progress of the race and will attempt to establish a finish line approximately 5 minutes ahead of the lead boat(s), at approximately 5 minutes before the end of the race.

12 TIME LIMIT

The race is a 2-hour pursuit format race. The finish line will be established at or before 4:00 PM. Yachts that have not crossed the finish line are still racing even though it is later than 4:00 PM.
