Privateer Yacht Club is a dynamically growing family of sailors in the Chattanooga area.
Here is a brief summary of our newest members.
Cherie is another recent graduate of our Adult Learn to Sail Class. Although she grew up at the beach in Florida, she did not come from a sailing background. She has enjoyed her time at the club so far and is looking forward to getting to know more of our members.
Natalie is a recent graduate of our adult learn to sail classes and is enthusiastic about improving her sailing skills. She has already been out crewing on some of our keel boats and helped out on race committee recently. She has been checked out on use of the club Flying Scots and plans to practice her skills on the water.
Branden is another recent graduate of our adult learn to sail classes and is very excited about the opportunity to add to his sailing knowledge through us e of the club-owned sailboats. He’s been up on the club on numerous occasions and always eager to be out on the water.
Roxanne and Steve Koviack
Roxanne is yet another graduate of our adult learn to sail program and is so enthusiastic about sailing that she and her husband have already purchased a sailboat. Roxanne is hoping to expand her sailing knowledge through help and input from “all the wonderful and friendly sailors” at PYC.
Lester and Lynne Cooper Stern
Lester and Lynne have recently returned to the Chattanooga area and are eager to continue their involvement with sailing. Lester has significant sailing experience in a wide variety of sailboats. Lynne comes by her sailing knowledge naturally, as the daughter of our one and only Brainard Cooper, who can trace her sailing experience back to PYC sail camp.
Mike and Chona Hoy
Mike started racing and sailing dinghies in the United Kingdom in 1976 when he was 10 years old. He has done yacht charters in the Caribbean and owned a larger keelboat on the Chesapeake Bay. Mike is now ready to get back into dinghy sailing and recently purchased a Melges 14 He is looking forward to getting back out on the water and honing his skills in his new sailboat.
Finnegan Hewitt and Shoshana Rosenthal
Finn has been sailing most all his life following in the footsteps of his father, who was also a sailor. He has done lake sailing, as well as off-shore sailing, including many trips up and down the East Coast. Most recently he has sailed out of Bayview Yacht Club in the Detroit area. Shoshana is a physician, but also finds time for sailing, though she views herself much more as a pleasure-sailor, Both of them are excited to be a part of the PYC community and are eager to participate in all the club has to offer.
Bill and Melissa Klingensmith
Bill has participated in local, regional and national racing events in years past, but then took a break in sailing for a while. He is now ready to get back into the sport and is looking forward to participating in PYC events and says part of his reason for wanting to join PYC was the “Super nice people”! Melissa does not have sailing experience but is interested in learning.
Ernest and Claudia Kirk
The Kirks have recently returned to Ernest’s hometown of Chattanooga and plan to retire here. Ernest is a snipe sailor from way back and mentioned Brainard Cooper as a fellow competitor. Ernest has already started crewing for people in the Wednesday night series, and looks forward to continued opportunities to race, as well as to participate in a working sailing club.
Sheena has recently moved to Chattanooga after spending several year sin the San Francisco Bay area, where she learned to sail. Sheena has done some off-shore sailing as a crew member, as well as sailing on keelboats in the rough waters of the Bay. Lake sailing will be new to her, and she is looking forward to the experience, as well as joining a community of others who share her love of sailing.
Michael is looking forward to making sailing a part of his retirement lifestyle. He learned to sail in 1981 at Penn State and has sailed since then whenever the opportunity presented itself. Michael is looking forward to crewing on a variety of boats before deciding to purchase one for himself.
Christopher has primarily done off-shore sailing and readily admits it will be a new experience for him to sail on an inland lake. Chris currently sails a Hobbie Cat, but is looking forward to experiencing a variety of other boat types while at PYC.
Albert and Diane Jarvis
Albert started sailing in Berlin, Germany and has lived aboard an Endeavor 32in Tampa, Florida. Though temporarily sidelined by knee surgery, Albert is looking forward to being a part of an active sailing community.
Peterson comes to PYC with lots of sailing experience, including participation in the Junior Olympics. He met Frank Hughes while a boarding student at McCallie and has crewed for Frank a number of times now that he has returned to Chattanooga. He has raced a variety of boats over the years and is looking for a club to continue to sail his Lightning.
Marc and Rachel Erickson
Marc and Rachel have recently relocated to Chattanooga to allow Marc to complete his medical training in Cardiology. They have added to their family with the recent birth of a baby. Marc has been sailing with Tom Prevost and is eager to expand on the knowledge he gained from the Adult Learn to Sail classes.
Chase Wood and Victoria Booker
Have recently moved to Chattanooga and would like to be active participants in a sailing community. Chase has past sailing experience, primarily at clubs in Alabama, while Victoria is eager to learn! Chase owns a Catalina Capri.
